American Society for Nutrition

The American Society for Nutrition is the principal United States society for professional researchers and practitioners in the field of nutrition, publishing two of the leading journals in the field. The Society is one of the member societies comprising the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology

It is a non-profit organization dedicated to bringing together the world's top researchers, clinical nutritionists and industry to advance knowledge and application of nutrition for the sake of humans and animals. The Society's focus ranges from the most critical details of research and application to the broadest applications in society, in the United States and around the world.

Through excellence in nutrition research and practice, ASN's members enhance scientific knowledge and quality of life. The Society supports its members and fulfills its mission by fostering and enhancing research in animal and human nutrition; providing opportunities for sharing, disseminating, and archiving peer-reviewed nutrition research results (at its annual meeting and in its official publications); fostering quality education and training in nutrition; upholding standards for ethical behavior in research, the protection of human subjects, and the care and treatment of research animals; providing opportunities for fellowship and support among nutritionists; and bringing scientific knowledge to bear on nutrition issues through communication and influence in the public domain.

ASN has published the first specific journal on nutrition, The Journal of Nutrition, since 1928; the journal has an impact factor of 3.77[1],making it the 3rd among peer-reviewed journals in ISI's nutrition and dietetic category. It also publishes the more recent American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, first published in 1952. This journal has an impact factor of 6.6[2], making it the 1st among peer-reviewed journals in ISI's nutrition and dietetic category.
